Q

When do you use engine anti-ice?

A

when the outside air temperature on the ground

or total air temperature (TAT) in flight is 10°C or below with visible moisture present.

Q

What is the exception to the engine anti-ice rule?

A

The use of engine anti-ice is not required during climb or cruise flight when the saturated air temperature (SAT) is below -40°C.
Also, engine anti-ice should be selected ON prior to and
during descent in icing conditions, regardless of SAT.

Q

What does a FAULT light in the ENG ANTI ICE pushbutton indicate?

A

The amber light comes on and a caution message appears on ECAM if the position of the anti-ice valve disagrees with the ENG 1(2) pushbutton selection.

Q

With ENG ANTI ICE ON, what indications will you see?

A

When selected ON, the light comes on blue, an ECAM MEMO “ENG A. ICE” is displayed, and the engine anti-ice valve opens if bleed air is available. N1 Limit is reduced and N1 idle is increased.

Q

When do the wing anti-ice valves automatically close?

A

If wing anti-ice was used in flight, the valves will automatically close upon landing.
If the system detects a leak during normal operation, the affected side’s wing anti-ice valve automatically closes.
Also, if the electrical power supply fails, the valves close.

Q

What does the amber FAULT light in the WING ANTI ICE pushbutton indicate?

A

The light comes on amber, and caution appears on ECAM, if the position of the anti-icing control valve disagrees with the WING ANTI ICE pb selection, or if low pressure is detected.

Q

On the ground, with the PROBE/WINDOW HEAT pushbutton in AUTO, when are the probe and mast heaters activated?

A

The probes are heated automatically when at least one engine is running, or when the aircraft is in flight.
On the ground, the TAT probes are not heated and pitot heating operates at a low level (the changeover to normal power in flight is automatic).
