Hydraulics Flashcards

1
Q

What occurs when you press the RAT MAN ON pushbutton?

A

allows the crew to manually extend the ram air turbine (RAT) which provides hydraulic pressure to the blue hydraulic system.

Q

Does the PTU transfer hydraulic fluid?

A

No, bi-directional power transfer unit enables the yellow system to pressurize the green system and vice versa, without fluid transfer.

Q

When does the BLUE ELEC PUMP operate?

A

If AC power is available, the electric pump operates in flight. It will operate on the ground if one engine is running or if the crew has pressed the BLUE PUMP OVRD pushbutton on the maintenance panel.

Q

Does the RAT automatically deploy with the loss of BLUE hydraulic?

A

No, RAT only deploys automatically if AC BUS 1 and AC BUS 2 are both lost and aircraft speed is greater than 100 kts.

Q

What condition will cause the PTU to operate when the pushbutton is in AUTO?

A

when the differential pressure between the green and the yellow systems is greater than 500 psi.

Q

When is the PTU inhibited?

A

The PTU is inhibited in all the following situations:
• when the PTU pb is selected OFF
• during first engine start
• during cargo door operation and for 40 seconds after door operation.
• on ground, when only one engine master switch is on and nose wheel steering is in the towing position (NWS deactivated) and/or the parking brake is set on.
• in flight, when a green or yellow hydraulic system low pressure condition is detected, for more than 6 second (prevents the operative hydraulic system from overheating in the case of low fluid in the inoperative system). This inhibition will cancel if the low-pressure alert disappears for 20 seconds.

Q

If the ECAM actions lead you to turn OFF the PTU for a Reservoir Overheat, will the FAULT light go out?

A

Only when the overheat condition subsides.

17
Q

What does an amber FAULT light in the PTU pushbutton indicate (OLL)?

A
  • the green or yellow reservoir level is low
  • the green or yellow reservoir overheats
  • the green or yellow reservoir pressure is low
18
Q

What does an amber FAULT light in the ENG PUMP pushbutton indicate (POLL)?

A
• the reservoir level is low
• the reservoir overheats
• the reservoir air pressure is low
• The pump pressure is low (inhibited on the ground, when the engine is
stopped)
19
Q

What does a FAULT light in the BLUE or YELLOW ELEC PUMP pushbutton indicate
(POLLO)?

A
• Reservoir level is low
• Reservoir overheats
• Reservoir air pressure is low
• Pump pressure is low (inhibited on the ground, when the engines are
stopped)
• Pump overheats
20
Q

What is the function of the hydraulic priority valves?

A

Maintain the operation of the essential flight controls.
Each hydraulic system has a priority valve that will cut off hydraulic power to heavy load users including the landing gear, slats and flaps, and the emergency generator if hydraulic pressure in a system gets low.

21
Q

What is the purpose of the hand pump?

A

To pressurize the yellow system in order to operate the cargo doors when no electrical power is available.
