Q

Describe how spatial technologies are used to assess and manage Sunbury’s land use change.

A

The Hume City Council uses ‘Esri’, a GIS (Geographic Information System) mapping software, in order to create multi overlay maps. Maps are created in order to plot major natural and human geographical characteristics, particular areas zoned as residential/open space/potential future residential etc are then overlaid onto the same map. This assists in future planning of land use change within Sunbury.

Q

Evaluate the techniques used in the fieldwork investigation.

A

Collection of primary data through surveying and one on one interviews proved effective though inefficient, the techniques proved to be weaker and more limiting than expected. People often did not want to devote their time, meaning very limited amounts of data could be collected in each outing. Some approached were available though lacked the social/language skills to answer survey questions satisfactorily.
