LAMPON - Theories Of Learning - Operant Conditioning Flashcards
What is positive reinforcement?
Involves the use of a stimulus to create feelings of satisfactions
Examples include praise from your coach,
Personal satisfaction or any type of reward
What is negative reinforcement?
Still done for good behaviour but involves the removal of an unpleasant stimulus when the desired response occurs. Examples; a coach will stop shouting at his football team if they start playing correctly and are now doing as instructed
What is punishment?
Methods used to weaker the stimulus - response bond and decrease the likelihood of the action being repeated
Examples are being booked by the referee or fined by a governing body
Being removed from first team or squad
What’s thorndikes law of learning consist of?
Law of exercise
Law of effect
Law of readiness
What is the law of exercise? ( Thorndikes )
Performer must practice regularly
What is the law of effect? (Thorndikes )
Performer is more likely to repeat the task of behaviour is followed by reinforcement.
What is the law of readiness? ( Thorndikes )
Performer is physically and mentally ready to complete task E.g appropriate levels of motivation
What’s the Drive Reduction Theory?
(Hull) suggests learning will occur due to the performers desire to complete the task
Only by achieving their drive will they be satisfied
To strengthen the SR bond, motivation and drive needed to be maintained ( in order to keep the performer engaged, coaches must set Individuals goals, with given praise )
What is operant conditioning?
Trail and error learning
Manipulation of the environment to get the desired action.
Looks at the strength between the stimulus and the response, S.R Bond
Used reinforcement - positive and negative
