115
what nerve innervates the diaphragm
phrenic
116
what do the nasal conchae do
make air turbulent in order to warm and humidify it
117
what does the conducting zone include
trachea primary, secondary, tertiary bronchi bronchioles
118
what does the respiratory zone inclue
respiratory bronchioles alveolar ducts alveolar sacs alveoli respiratory membrane
119
describe the mucociliary escalator
not including the nasal vestibule, the entire respiratory tract is lined with PCCE all the way down to the bronchioles. It has globlet cells and seromucous glands which secrete mucous. Potential pathogens/particles stick to the mucous. The mucous is moved up and out of the respiratory tract by the cilia
120
what kind of tissue lines the alveoli and what is it's purpose
simple squamous ET for gas diffusion
121
what kind of tissue lines the nasal vestibule
stratified squamous ET for abrasion protection
122
define respiration
production of gas exchange in the lungs
123
what paired cartilaginous structures of the larynx move to change the tension of the vocal cords
arytenoid cartilage
124
why is there cartilage in the conducting zone and not the respiratory zone
cartilage is needed in the conducting zone for structural support as the tubes are larger. In the respiratory zone, the tubes are smaller and don't need the same support
