Lab: Blood Vessels Flashcards
What are elastic arteries
also called conducting vessels
closest to the heart and are under the highest pressure within their respective circulations
what is the purpose of elastic tissue in conducting vessels
need to stretch and recoil due to being under so much pressure
what is the smallest form of arteries called
arterioles
what is another name for arteriole and why are they called that
resistence vessel
they can change in diameter to provide more resistance to blood flow (when smooth MT contracts, the diameter of arterioles decreases)
what function do capillaries serve
they are exchange vessels (fluid, nutrients, waste exchanged between blood and tissues)
what is the main purpose of a venule
to move blood into veins
which type of vein has valves
medium sized
My wall only has the tunica intima as part of it’s structure
capillaries
what is the tunica intima made of
simple squamous ET
what is the tunica media made of
smooth muscle and sometimes elastic tissue
what is the tunica externa made of
fibrous CT
what is larger in an artery than in a vein
the tunica media
why are veins less structured (smaller tunica media)
little to no pressure is going though them
where does blood from the brachiocephalic artery go
toward the arm and head regions on the right side of body
where does the blood from the right subclavian artery flow
towards the right upper limb
where does the blood from the right common carotid artery flow
right side of the head
where does the blood from the left common carotid artery flow
to the left side of the head
where does the blood from the left subclavian artery flow
left upper limb
where does the internal carotid artery perfuse
brain
what does the external common carotid perfuse
structures of the cranial body cavity
what does the vertebral artery perfuse
vertebrae, spinal cord, deep neck structures
what does the axillary artery perfuse
upper body structures
what does the brachial artery perfuse
anterior brachium
what does the deep brachial artery perfuse
posterior brachium
what does the radial artery perfuse
lateral antebrachial region
what does the ulnar artery perfuse
medial antebrachial region
where does blood that goes into venae cavae come from and where does it go
from systemic circuit and to the right atrium
which veins drain the brain (this is my science rap)
internal jugular veins and subclavian veins
which arteries INDIVIDUALLY branch off of the abdominal aorta
celiac trunk
superior and inferior mesenteric arteries
what are the 3 paired arteries that branch off of the abdominal aorta
suprarenal (adrenal)
renal
gonadal
what does the celiac trunk perfuse
digestive organs
what are the 3 arteries that branch off of the celiac trunk
common hepatic
splenic
left gastric
what does the common hepatic artery supply with blood (organs)
liver, duodenum, pancreas
what does the splenic artery supply with blood
spleen and pancreas
what does the left gastric artery supply with blood
inferior esophagus
what is the main organ that is perfused by superior mesenteric artery
small intestines
what is the main organ that is perfused by the inferior mesenteric artery
large intestines
what do the suprarenal (adrenal) arteries supply
adrenal glands
what do the renal arteries supply
kidneys
what do the gonadal arteries supply
balls and female balls (reproductive organs)
what is an organ supplied by the internal iliac arteries
urinary bladder
what is the purpose of the external iliac arteries
conduit for blood to gain access to the lower limbs
what does the inferior vena cava drain
lower body
where does most abdominal blood go before it gets back to the heart
liver; portal system
is the blood within the hepatic portal system oxygenated or not
not
