What do Green top tubes contain? What do they produce?
Lithium heparin. Produces plasma after centrifugation
What do Purple top tubes contain? What do they produce?
EDTA. Produces plasma after centrifugation
What do Red top tubes produce?
Serum after centrifugation
What do Blue top tubes contain? What are they used for?
Buffered sodium citrate. Used to run coagulation testing on whole blood.
What do Serum Separator Tubes do?
Separates serum from whole blood via a gel within the tube
What color microhematocrit tubes contain EDTA and the other doesn’t?
Red HCT tubes contain EDTA, blue does not
What is supernatent?
Liquid leftover after centrifugation
What is sediment?
Heavier component pushed to the bottom of the tube after centriguation
What must you always do when using a centrifuge?
Make sure it’s counterbalanced properly
What is a refractometer commonly used for?
Total protein in Plasma and USG
How is USG read on the refractometer?
As 1.0__. and is spoken as “ten” followed by the last 2 digits . Ex. 1.020 is spoken as “ten twenty”

When moving a chemical out of its original container to a secondary container
