Lab 5 (Part 3: Reflexes) Flashcards
What causes a REFLEX to occur?
RELFEXS are initiatedwhen a SENSORY RECEPTOR is stimulated, and an EFFECTOR (e.g. MUSCLE or GLAND) responds
Where does an INTEROCEPTOR gather info from?
From inside the body e.g. monitors internal systems
Where does an EXTEROCEPTOR gather info from?
From outside the body e.g. touch, pressure, smell, other senses
What kind of stimulus does a NOCICEPTOR respond to?
Pain
What kind of stimulus does a THERMORECEPTOR respond to?
Change in temp.
What kind of stimulus does a CHEMORECEPTOR respond to?
Food, O2, CO2, glucose, amino acids
What kind of stimulus does a PHOTORECEPTOR respond to?
Light
What kind of stimulus does a MECHANORECEPTOR respond to?
Touch, pressure, muscle, tendon, sound waves, motion
What kind of stimulus does a PROPRIOCEPTOR respond to?
Muscle or tendon tension
What kind of stimulus does a BARORECEPTOR respond to?
Pressure changes (BP)
What kind of stimulus does a TACTILE RECEPTOR respond to?
Touch
