what to look for: head
scalp and skull: laceration, fracture, battle’s sign
ears and nose: CSF and blood
eye: racoon eyes
face: oral and nasal region
what to look for: neck
neck: spinous processes and muscles
jugular vein distension
tracheal deviation
what to look for: chest
chest: sternum and ribs, anterior, lateral and medial (1/2 each)
symmetrical breathing?
what to look for: abdomen
rigidity in 4 quadrants
pelvis: squish compression
what to look for: extremities
lower limbs, upper limbs, MSC in all
what to look for: posterior aspect
torso/thorax
lumbar/back
intact blister care
leave intact for first 24 hrs
use a doughnut pad
monitor blister are daily for infection
replace dressing is it become wet from fluid seepage
denude area when tenderness completely gone
how to drain a large blister
use antiseptic
make a small incision and apply pressure
cover with antibiotic ointment
torn blister care
clean and apply antiseptic
lay flat of skin back over, apply sterile non adhesive doughnut pads
monitor daily
completely open blister care
is blister is more than half torn open, remove skin
clean with soap and water, apply antiseptic and use occlusive dressing
apply second skin on top
abrasions care
clean abraded area with mild soap and water
debride with a brush, begin at centre and brush outwards
apply antiseptic solution over area and butadiene solution
apply medicated ointment
pace non-adherent sterile pad over the ointment
change dressing daily and look for signs of infection
lacerations care
cleanse the wound avoid wiping contaminants into the area pull opposing edges together and apply sterile wrap adhesives apply dry sterile cover pad refer to physician
