Lab 37: Identification of Pseudomonas Flashcards
what is Pseudomonas aeruginosa?
Pseudomonas?
-gram-negative, aerobic rod and important opportunistic pathogen
-is a common cause of nosocomial infections (acquired infections) and can infect surgical wounds and produce blue-green pus. also cause of septicemia and pneumonia and resistant to many antibiotics and disinfecting agents
Pseudomonas Agars F and P were developed to help?
two pigments that are characteristic of Pseudomonas?
-help distinguish Pseudomonas aeruginosa on the basis of pigment production
-fluorescein and pyocyanin
Pseudomonas Agar F
enhances the production of pigment fluorescein (yellow) while inhibiting pyocyanin
Pseudomonas Agar P
enhances the production of pyocyanin (blue) while inhibiting fluorescein
