lab 3 terminology Flashcards
Urea
Nitrogenous waste of protein metabolism formed in liver and excreted in urine
Azoturia
Excess urea in the urine.
Myoglobinurea
Presence of muscle protein in urine that indicates severe muscle damage
Crystalluria
Crystals excreted in the urine that cause kidney irritation
Examples of crystalluria
FUS & FLUTD
True hemoglobinura
Hemoglobin from RBC’S that hemolyzed within the vascular system; deadly
Example of true hemoglobinura
DIC- dissimulated intra vascular coagulation
False hemoglobinura
More common; hemoglobin from RBC’S that hemolyzed within the urinary bladder
What causes false hemoglobinura
Bacteria
Glucosuria, glycosuria, dextrosuria
Glucose in the urine
What causes Glucosuria, glycosuria, dextrosuria
Renal tubules may not be absorbing glucose completely
Isosthenuria
Maintenance of constant concentration of urine, regardless of changes of osmotic pressure in blood
What causes Isosthenuria
USG approaches that of the glomular filtrate; chronic renal disease
Ketonemia
Excessive ketones in the blood
When is Ketonemia seen
With high fat diets, starvation, long term anorexia, and impaired liver function
