Lab 2 Flashcards
Idenify the organelles and know the functions
What is the function of the nucleus?
Controls cell activities and contains DNA.
What is the function of the mitochondria?
Produces energy (ATP) through cellular respiration.
What is the function of the rough endoplasmic reticulum (rough ER)?
Transports and modifies proteins made by ribosomes to the Golgi Apparatus.
What is the function of the smooth endoplasmic reticulum?
Synthesizes lipids and detoxifies harmful substances.
What is the function of the Golgi apparatus?
Processes, packages, and stores, proteins, and lipids received from the ER.
What is the function of lysosomes?
It breaks down waste, damaged organelles, and food particles.
What is the function of the cytoplasm?
Identifying = Jelly like substance that holds the organelles
Supports organelles and is the site for most chemical reactions.
What is the function of the plasma membrane?
Aka cell membrane
Semipermeable membrane that regulates what goes in and out of the cell and maintains homeostasis
What is the function of the centriole?
Identifying the structure = Think of a churro
Helps with cell division and has spindle fiber involvement.
What is the function of the centrosome?
Contains centriole and divides during cell division
What is the function of the peroxisome?
Identifying function = Think of peroxide
Breaks down substances.
What is the function of the nucleolus?
Creates ribosomes.
What is the function of the vacoule?
Helps in the storage and disposal of various substances.
What is the function of the nuclear membrane?
Covers the nucleus and seperates the nucleus from other organelles.
What is the function of the nucleoplasm?
The nucleoplasm contains DNA in the form of chromosomes.
What is the function of the cytoskeleton?
Helps and the cell maintain its shape and internal organization.
