lab 1 ergometer Flashcards

1
Q

why is it important to calibrate a ergometer prior to a research study?

A
  • minimize measurement error. (validity)
  • maximize repeatability (reliable)
  • improve comparability of data. (within and between labs)

Q

what are the equations and SI units for, work, force, power, velocity.

A

Force= F=ma (Newtons)
Power= PO = Fd/t or w/t (watts)
Work= W= Fd (joules)
Velocity= V= d/t (m/s)

Q

You are a personal trainer working at Gold’s Gym. An overweight middle aged businessman approaches you regarding which ergometer he should use to begin his exercise program. What question(s) would you ask him? What ergometer might you recommend he start on? Why?

A
  • I would start by asking him what fitness experience he has? what exercises he likes and doesn’t like, with relationship to cardio.
  • I would recommend cardio that he likes. ideally rowing, or oliptical would be best because they are more full body calories being burned.
  • using full body exercises requires more muscle recruitment, and your also gonna be transferring systems from anaerobic to aerobic.

Q

what was the objectives of basic ergometry?

A
  • be introduced to the different types of ergometry EQM, (monarch bike, monarch rower, treadmill)
  • perform simple ergometry calculations
  • students introduced to safety, use, and calibration of EQM.
