La ceinture de sécurité: what does it do?
increases chances of remaining conscious & acting quickly
penalties of not having seatbelt?
every passenger needs to have one on
adults/drivers risk 135 euro fine
driver might lose 3 point
at 50 km/h you might stay alive; without you die in a crash
what safety devices are activated in an accident? (dispositif de securite)
- Le pretensioners
- Les airbags
- les limiteurs d’effort
- l’appuite tête (last)
what do les pretensioners do?
Their triggering causes harmless detonation and smoke.
Blocks body early & allows for airbags to activatate1
what do airbags do? how many are there?
Vehicles are usually fitted with 6 airbags comprising two frontal and 2 side in the front and 2 running curtains on each side.
The airbag is coupled to the seat belt at the time of impact.
how to avoid injury with airbags?
dont position yourself too close to wheel
don’t drive with thumbs inside wheel
don’t put feeet on car table to risk colon/vertebral facture
les limiteurs d’effort do what?
reduce pressure on thorax
l’appuite tête does what?
allows for head & body to hit against
protects vital organs
driver responsibllity when it comes to children??
all under 18; can pay 135 euros for every minor not secure & lose points
how should children be secured in the car
(LES SIEGES HOMOLOGUES + SEATBELT)
Approved seats are coupled to the seat belt, the strap passes under the seat or over the booster seat.
They must be installed on a seat equipped with a belt, adapted to the age, morphology and weight of the child.
how should a child of 0-15 months & 13 kg be installed
facing the rea of the car
airbags uninstalled
in a sege homologue
how should a child between 10 months to 4 years (9-18 kg) be installed in the car?
De 9-10 mois à 3-4 ans (de 9 à 18 kg), siège baquet ou siège à réceptacle.
how should a child between 10 months to 4 years (9-18 kg) be installed in the car?
De 9-10 mois à 3-4 ans (de 9 à 18 kg), siège baquet ou siège à réceptacle.
how should a child between 3-4 years to 10-11 years (15 to 36 kg) be installed in a car?
just a ‘rehausser’ seat to increase child height and avoid seat belt passing over neck
what is a siege auto-evolutive
are convertible to be rear-facing and forward-facing.
BLUE indicates if the strap should pass on rear-facing seat placement and RED if for forward-facing. t
how and when to disactive the airbag?
what is the system isofix?
an international standard that allows for the quick and correct installation of a child car seat
how to install a rear-facing baby seat?
deactivate the passenger airbag; warning light indicates its off
how to install a child under 10 years
If height is too low; needs a ‘sieges homologue’ but if not OK but in BACK
children older than 10 years?
don’t need a siege homologue anymore
can sit in front if tall enough
how to tell if a child is tall enough to sit in front
if seat belt does not pass over neck
what is Le système de sécurité enfant
activation of child safety device on the rear door; so can only be opened from outside
activated by lever inside backdoor:
Pour activer la sécurité enfant, déplacer le levier de chaque portière située à l’arrière du véhicule. Ainsi, l’ouverture ne peut se faire que de l’extérieur.
what is the ESP?
electronic stabillity programme
what does ESP do
Act independnently of driver to keep car on road
what is ABS
Le système anti-blocage des roues,
what does ABS do
The system detects the loss of grip and automatically distributes the braking to each wheel to compensate for the skid.
its possibly to keep driving car while braking if bad conditions
when it works; it causes large sound so don’t relax the braking pedal
without ABS= car skids!
whats the L’AFU
L’assistance au freinage d’urgence
what does L’AFU do
compliments the ABS; detects emergency according to speed of depression of pedal and amplifies breaking to maximum and limits blockage
skidding
what are L’ASR (ASC, EDS, TCS…)
ASR: Attestation de sécurité routière
what does l’ASR do?
anti-patinages (traction controls) which prevent drivers wheel from spinning while accelerated ; but these can be disactivated
Contrôle de la pression des pneumatiques
pressure and wheel control
what does Contrôle de la pression des pneumatiques do?
these are in each wheel to let you know the wheel pressure; but does not mean you should not be visually controlling the wheels too
Le regulateur de vitesse
maintains a chosen speed even when breaking is inactivated
how to use speed regulator
Use this there is fluid circulation and the road is flat road
Does not maintain speed on steep descents or busy hilly roads
Driver must maintain the position of feet and place foot on break if needed
The risk is to lengthen reaction time by taking the right foot away from the brake pedal or crossing feet
Should not be used in rainy weather to avoid aquaplaning
Limiteur de vitesse
lets you decide max speed (useful in towns to stop emergencies if high accelerator pressing occurs)
what are the different parts of this diagram?
LEFT:
top: limiteur de vitesse
bottom: regalteur de vitesse
RIGHT
top: increases speed
bottom: deactivates the regulator//ends speed limiter
what is this?
Changement de rapport!
indicates good time to change gears
what is this?
blind zone detection
what is this?
ALERT OF PASSING ROAD LINE:
Alerts driver of deviations by inattention (trajectory of driving)
The camera on the windscreen identifies markings on the ground; helps with night highway driving or fatigue
what is this
Assistance active ou maintien de voie
keeps:
Active lane keeping assistance is associated with the lane departure warning system.
It corrects the trajectory in the event of a lane change not signaled with a turn signal.
Radar de recul
sensors in the back & front that detect obstacles via ultrasound & signal drivers via an audiovisual signal
uses cameras to show back and frton
Assistance active au stationnement
assists driver while parking
pressing brake/steering wheel deactivates it
advisable to keep foot on brake and hands close to wheel for safety with pedestarians
Système embarqué de téléphonie mobile
hands free phone system; keep conversations short however
fine for phone/headphones while driving
phone in hand/heaphones= lose 3 points and 135 euro fine
Aide à la navigation
GPS; les you focus on other drivers/road insted of direction
Détecteur de somnolence
alerts you to take a break while driving for long
embouteillage
traffic jam
