L7: Posterior Thigh Muscles Flashcards
Hamstrings
Biceps Femoris
Origin:
Long Head: Originates from the ischial tuberosity
Short Head: linea aspera and lateral supracondylar line of femur
Attachment:
Lateral side of head of fibula
Function:
primarily responsible for hip extension and knee flexion . It also plays a role in the lateral rotation of the hip.
Nerve Supply:
sciatic nerve, specifically its tibial division (long head) and fibular division (short head)
Semitendinosus
Origin: the ischial tuberosity
Attachment: Posterior part of medial condyle of tibia
Function:
hip extension and knee flexion. It also plays a role in medial rotation of the hip.
Nerve Supply:
Innervated by the sciatic nerve, specifically its tibial division (L5-S2)
Semimembranosus
Origin:
Also originates from the ischial tuberosity.
Attachment:
Superior part of medial surface of tibia
Function:
hip extension and knee flexion. It also plays a role in medial rotation of the hip.
Nerve Supply:
Innervated by the sciatic nerve, specifically its tibial division (L5-S2)
