L7: Medial Thigh Muscles Flashcards
What are the Muscles of Medial Thigh?
Adductor Longus
Adductor Brevis
Adductor Magnus
Gracilis
Obturator Externus
Adductor Longus
Origin: Body of pubis inferior to pubic crest
Insertion: Middle third of the linea aspera of the femur
Innervation: Obturator nerve (L2, L3, L4)
Function: Adducts hip joint
Adductor Brevis
Origin: Body and inferior ramus of the pubis
Insertion: Pectineal line and proximal part of the linea aspera
Innervation: Obturator nerve (L2, L3, L4)
Function: Adducts hip joint and, to some extent, flexes it
Adductor Magnus (Adductor Part)
Adductor Part Origin: Inferior ramus of pubis, ramus of ischium
Insertion (Adductor Part): Gluteal tuberosity, linea aspera, medial supracondylar line
Innervation (Adductor Part): Obturator nerve (L2, L3, L4)
Function: Adducts hip joint; its adductor part also flexes hip joint, and its hamstring part extends it.
Adductor Magnus (Hamstring Part)
Hamstring Part Origin: Ischial tuberosity
Insertion (Hamstring Part): Adductor tubercle of femur
Innervation (Hamstring Part): Tibial part of the sciatic nerve (L4)
Function: Adducts hip joint; its adductor part also flexes hip joint, and its hamstring part extends it.
Gracilis
Origin: Body and inferior ramus of the pubis
Insertion: Superior part of the medial surface of the tibia (as part of pes anserinus)
Innervation: Obturator nerve (L2, L3)
Function: Adducts hip joint; flexes knee joint, medially rotating it when flexed
Obturator Externus
Origin: Margins of obturator foramen and obturator membrane
Insertion: Trochanteric fossa of the femur
Innervation: Obturator nerve (L3, L4)
Function: Laterally rotates hip joint; stabilizes hip joint
