What parts of the world are ‘switched off’?
The poorest parts of the world with little or no connections.
What has never been done in switched off areas?
Telephone connections have never been laid and Internet connections are poor.
What impact do these areas have on the global economy?
Little or none; they don’t generally have highly paid jobs so they cannot enter the global market place without investment.
What role do the countries in the wilderness play in TNCs?
They don’t have a large role but might contribute in the form of slave labour or in the raw materials such as the coffee beans for Starbucks.
What is the divide in wealth between the rich and poor?
The richest 1% own 40% of the world’s wealth and the poorest 50% just own 1% of the world’s wealth - the gap is widening.
