A

stress signals activate specific pathways which activate transcription factors that switch on/off genes to produce code for new proteins (mRNA). proteins made by ribosomes using this code.

A

genes - diff in 1000s genes (protein codes) and sex effect

ages - children less anabolic sex steriod hormone. old age blunted cell signalling

clinical - some diseases increase or decrease protein production.
