Q

Mechanism of action of omalizumab

A

monoclonal antibody binds Fc receptor to prevent igE binding to alpha chain to PCER1

monoclonal antibody that selectively binds to igE

  • Leads to the decreases binding of igE to its receptor on the surface of mast cells and basophils
  • reduction in surface bound igE limits the release of mediators of the allergic response

Q

Mechanism of action of NSAIDs

Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in RA

A

effective against pain and swelling
COX 2 selective-less likely to cause ulcers
Prevents the production of COX

NSAIDs prevent the synthesis of PGE2 and PGI2

Q

cyclosporin

A

1) cyclosporin binds to immunophilin to form a complex
2) complex increases the affinity of immunophilin to calcineurn and inhibits it
Inhibition of calcineurin
3)NFAT-P is not dephosphorylated
-> no NFAT is produced
no IL 2
no T cell proliferation

Q

G-CSF

Granulocyte Colony stimulating factor

A
  • Increases proliferation of neutrophil precursors
  • Increases the number/activity and effectiveness of the neutrophils

Shortens the period of time-number of days of low neutrophils
accelerates the recovery of the neutrophil population in a person who is having cycles of chemotherapy
