L 22 Flashcards
What are liquid verbs?
verbs that stem ends in λ, μ, ν, and ρ
What is special about liquid verbs?
they do not accept the direct attachment of the -σ of the future tense or the -σα of the first aorist
How are the future of liquid verbs formed? And then what usually happens?
1) by adding an epsilon suffix to the verb stem prior to the person/number endings
2) epsilon contracts with the variable vowel of the endings
3) Many of the future verbs(active/middle) looks exactly like the present (active/middle/passive) of an -εω contract verb
How can the verbs be differentiated?
1) accent placement
2) Sometimes by change in stem
2) sometimes a liquid future will have a different stem than present
How are the first aorist of liquid verbs formed? And then what usually happens?
1) by adding an alpha to the verb stem rather than σα
2) Sometimes by lengthening the stem
2) The stem vowel will usually lengthen (ex. μένω, ἔμεινα)
Explain Possessive Adjectives
1) the most common way of showing possession is genitive case of personal pronouns (μου, αὐτῆς, et.)
2) but also possessive adjectives (ἐμός, σός, ἡμέτερος, and ὑμέτερος)
3) they are declined like regular adjectives of 1st and 2nd declension
4) They will agree with noun in case, number, and gender
