l 17 epithelia Flashcards
what are the function of the epithelia
protection: form layer eg; skin, gut
control permeability: molecule pass through cell eg; osmolarity
Provide sensation: eg; Merkel cell close to nerve ending, hear cell
provide specialized secretion: saliva, sweat
what are the classification of the epithelial cell
simple: squamous, cuboidal, columnar, pseudostratified, endothelium, mesothelium.
stratified: squamous, cuboidal, columnar, transitional.
where are endothelium found
lining of heart and blood vessel
where are mesothelium found
pleura, pericardium, peritoneum
where are columnar found
lining of stomach, gallbladder, uterine tube
where are pseudostratified found
lining of nasal cavity, trachea
where are stratified transitional cell found
where there is change in pressure, bladder, ureter, renal pelvis
what is the function of tight function and where are they found
they prevent passage of (water, hydrolyte ..) between cells. they are found in the upper side of the cell close to the apical side
what are the 3 proteins that make tight junction
occluding, claudin, JAM
what is the protein of adhering junction
E-cadherin that bind to actin
what are the type of junction in epithelial cell
tight function, adhering junction, desmosomes, gap junction, cell adhesion molecules
what are the protein of the spot desmosome
E-cadherin that bind to intermediate filament. hold cell together
what are the protein of the gap junction
6 connexin make 1 connexon
what are the protein of hemidesmosome
integrin attached to intermediate filament
what are the type of gland
tubular or alveolar
