Describe the terms iron curtain and containment.
Iron curtain:
An iron curtain was the term that Churchill used to describe the divide in Europe after WW2.
Containment:
This was the policy announced by President Truman whereby America would stop communism from spreading from country to country.
What were the aims of the United Nations?
They wanted to have elections in Korea to unite the country. However, the elections never happened.
Explain what is meant by the term veto.
A veto is to go against a decision.
How did the UN become involved in a war in Korea?
They sent troops in made up of mostly Americans.
What two key decisions did MacArthur make after taking charge of UN forces in Korea?
- He launched a surprise attack at Inchon.
- He had to stop the collapse of the South Korean army.
Why was the victory at the port of Inchon important for UN forces?
It was important because it meant that they were engaged in the war and were demonstrating their strength against Communism.
Why do you think the UN forces crossed the 38th parallel into North Korea?
They crossed the 38th parallel into North Korea because they wanted to win at the port of Inchon.
Define the following terms:

- demilitarised zone.
Stalemate: When two sides reach a dead end.
Napalm: A chemical weapon.
Demilitarised zone: An area where no fighting happens.
What is meant by the human cost of war?
The human cost of war is how many people died.
