says that a childs understanding og gender becomes more SOPHISTICATED with age and goes through 3 STAGES.

what is stage 1?
A
Gender IDENTITY:
*2 years old
* child can correctly LABEL and identify thier own gender, NOT aware tha thteir sex is permanent.

what is stage 2?
A
Gender STABILITY:
*4 years old
* REalisation that their gender identity will remain CONSTANT over time.
* cannot apply this to OTHERS and is CONFUSED by external appearance changes.

what is stage 3?
A
Gender CONSTANCY:
*6 years old.
*Gender is both STABLE of time AND constant across different situations.
Can apply this to themselves and others,
*Not confused by changes to appearances.
