Knowlege Of Results And Performance Flashcards
What is knowledge of results?
Knowledge of results is information about the outcome or result of the movement; it is extrinsic e.g a pass in hockey
What is knowledge of performance?
Knowledge of performance is information about the quality of the movement. It can be extrinsic or intrinsic e.g a vault
Are they both intrinsic and extrinsic?
No knowledge of results is only extrinsic
Advantages of KOR?
Good at cognitive and associative stage
Good at autonomous (result focused)
Good for motivation -> satisfaction
Objective
Allows correction after the movement or outcome of the movement, enables modification
Good for open skills because the result over technique (whether the pass in hockey was successful not whether it looked good)
Advantages of KOP?
Ideal at autonomous stage - kinaesthesia
Allows for quick correction
Good for modifying over learned skills
Raises confidence (controllable by performer) -> especially when you’ve lost allows you to focus on positives
Refine skills -> how to improve
Effective in closed skills as it enables technique to be adjusted errors in performance e.g small adjustments during a vault
Disadvantages of KOR?
Can only be used after movement
Can be demotivating: Unrepresentative - performed well but lost
Not as effective in some closed skills as technique is often measure on success e.g vault or dive on how it looks
Disadvantages of KOP?
Less likely at cognitive stage
Gained through experience so may take long to develop. Overload too much information Long process (kinaesthesia) may be demotivating - unable to reach autonomous stage
Some don’t care about outcome
Detrimental if inaccurate
