Knee Flashcards
function of the knee
stability and mobility
what joint is the knee
condyloid joint
use of arthrokinematics
The movement of the joint, because of this it allows joint to be small but make large movements
what is the locking/screw mechanism
provides increased stability into extension
what happens when a convex joint surface is moving
roll and glide in opposite directions
what happens when a concave joint surface is moving
roll and glide in same direction
why do we have a patella
lengthen quadricep lever arm, provide large attachment point
what is passive insuffiency
occurs when a multi-joint muscle lengthens at all the joints it crosses. This limits the range of motion at each joint as a muscle is typically not long enough to allow full range of motion simultaneously at each joint it crosses.
what is active insuffiency
occurs when a multi-joint muscle shortens across all joints simultaneously, reducing its ability to generate optimal tension and force.
the 2 joints which make up the knee are between
between femur and patella, between femur and tibia
when walking how much force is on the knee
2-4x body weight
when landing from jump how much force is on knee
24x body weight
when knee is extended it provides what
greatest stability
when knee is flexed it provides what
greatest mobility
what are the main 4 ligaments
anterior cruciate, posterior cruciate, lateral collateral, medial collateral
