Basic Biomechanics Flashcards
what is the equation for force
force = mass x acceleration
what are forces
pushes or pulls which enable us to start or stop moving
what are tensile forces
pulling forces acting on the ends of an internal structure (muscle onto bone and tendon)
what are compressive force
pushing force acting on the end of an internal structure
what are some contact forces
ground reaction force, friction, air resistance
what are some non contact forces
gravity, electromagnetic
what are colinear forces
same line of action, same or opposite direction
what is the resultant force
vector addition of two or more forces
what is the net force
vector addition of ALL external forces on an object
what are concurrent forces
act through the same point but not along the same line
what is the equation for weight
weight = mass x gravity
what is the value of gravity to 2dp
9.81m/s^2
where is our center of gravity
around 55% of our height around out hip
how may center of gravity differ
based on our height age gender weight…
what techqniue is used in high jump to get over the bar
the fosbury flop - COG goes under the bar but you go over
what is newtons first linear law
every body remains in its state of motion unless compelled to change by external forces
what is inertia
the resistance of a body to change its motion
what is newtons second law
law of acceleration, force = mass x acceleration
what is newtons third law
to every action there is a equal and opposite reaction
what happens if the ground reaction force is greater than the body weight
the individual will accelerate upwards
what is impulse
equal to the area under a force time curve, change of momentum of an object when a force is applied
what needs to be done for a succesful landing
reduce velocity to 0, reduce momentum to 0
what happens when you land stiff
as all joints are extended there will be alot more force on the muscles and lead to greater chance of injury
