CT: connective tissue Flashcards
what are the 4 main types of tissue
muscle, nervous, epithelial, connective
what is connective tissue
most abundant and widely distributed tissue
examples of connective tissue
bone ligament fat blood
function of connective tissue
transport nutrients, protect and insulate organs, bind and support other tissue
2 main types of cells
immature cells and mature cells
what are mature cells
end in cyte, job is to maintain matrix, bone-osteocyte cartilage-chrondrocyte
what are immature cells
end in blast, job is to secrete matrix, bone-osteoblast cartilage-chrondroblast
what is the matrix
plays a major role in the functioning of the tissue
what is the ground substance
can be fluid gel or solid, support cells in matrix to bind cells together and act as medium between blood and cells
function of collagen fibres
consist of collagen, very tough, resistant to tension
function of elastic fibes
consist of elastin, can be stretched to 150% of relaxed length
function of hyaline cartilage
covers articular surfaces at joints, reducing frictoin and absorbs some shock
function of fibrocartilage
makes up discs and rings between joints, can resist considerable pressure, great strength
what are dense regular CT
forms ligaments and tendons
what are dense irregular CT
forms joint capsule
