Hip Flashcards
functions of the hip
required for stability (high forces) and mobility (multidirectional)
3 main sections of the hip
ischium, ilium, pubis
diarthoses meaning
freely movable joint that connects bones to cartilage
amphiarthrosis meaning
joint that has limited mobility and is fibrous
synarthroses meaning
fixed joint and does not allow movement normally
close packed meaning
joint surfaces are maximally congruent, ligaments are taught - most stable
open packed meaning
joint has the least congruency, reduced stabiltiy - most mobile
iliofemoral lilgament
prevents too much adduction/extension/external rot
attaches to lower part of AIIS and acetabulum to the inerochanteric line
pubofemoral ligament
attaches from iliopubic eminence and supeior pubic rammus to lower part of interochanteric line
prevents too much extension/abduction/external rot
ischiofemorla ligament
arises from the body of ischium to superior part of neck of GT
prevents too much extension/abduction/ internal rotation
6 movements at the hip
flexion, extension, adduction, abduction, external rotation, internal rotation
origin of muscle
where it starts
insertion of muscle
where it ends
action of muscle
useful way to group muscles
innervation of muscles
which nerve switches it on / supplies it
