Kinesiology of Lower extremity PT 2 Flashcards
What do the medial muscles of the hips do? What muscles are included?
Its function is to internally rotate and adduct the hips. The muscles included in adduction are the adductor group: Adductor brevis, Adductor longus and Adductor magnus.
The most important internal rotators include adductor longus and brevis, gluteus medius and minimus, pectineus, and TfL.
What is the function of the anterior knee muscles? What are the muscles included? What do the muscles form?
The function of the anterior knee muscles is to extend the knees. Its muscles include the quadriceps femoris, it contains 4 muscles, 3 of which is originate on the proximal femur(Vastus intermedius, vastus, medialis and vastus lateralis) The last muscle, rectus femoris is located on ASIS. These 4 muscles combine distally to form the patellar tendon which houses the patella bone.
Should the knees never go past the toes during lunges or squats?
No, it is a myth. In truth, the likely cause of injury during these movements are forward movement of the hips. Researchers confirm that moving the knee past the toes increases knee stress by 28% but restricting knee movement past the toes increases hip stress by 1000%. To counter this issue, before doing the movement, the individual should ensure that the hips are pushed backwards before lowering.
