Kidney Failure Flashcards
1
Q
What is the GFR?
A
glomerular filtration rate
this tells you if the kidney is failing or not
if low - it shows kidney is damaged
2
Q
What are the causes of kidney failure?
A
high blood pressure and kidney infection
3
Q
How does high blood pressure cause kidney failure?
A
ultra-filtration is already at high blood pressure
glomerelus can be damaged mostly
4
Q
How does kidney infection cause kidney failure?
A
pathogen damage cells and tissues in the kidney
5
Q
What are the problems that can lead to kidney failure?
A
kidneys cant filtrate - blood will have increased - urea, ions
- this can be fatal
kidney cant reabsorb
- blood will have decreased - urea, ions, proteins, RBC’s, water
- fluid built up in tissues bc we cant get rid of water
