Histology of the Liver Flashcards
What is the liver tissue made up of
hexagonal cylinders called liver lobules
they have a central vein that connects to the hepatic vein which have hepatocytes
this connects the hepatic artery, hepatic portal vein and bile duct
What are all of the parts of the liver?
bile duct hepatic partial vein hepatic artery Kupffer cells sinusoid - space hepatocytes - look like worms with dots and lines central vein - big circle liver lobule - outside
What is the histology of the liver?
hepatic artery and hepatic portal vein combine to flow towards central vein
as they blood flows through these, hepatocytes breaks down toxic substances through detoxification
e.g. alcohol
metabolic waste products leave via the central vein
the central veins join up to form the hepatic vein
Kupffer cells - in the sinusoid, they break down bacteria, they can break down large molecules
