in recent years employers have paid more attention to ensuring the well-being of staff in the workplace especially regarding mental health.
how much a year on average does a business spend on mental health costs?
£29 billion - which is due to filling in labour shortages due to high absenteeism, a fall in productivity. this is why the question has been raised as to if the work place is a factor of mental health.
how many people resign from work due to mental health issues?
1 in 10
why might resigning from work because of mental health make the problem worse?
social isolation from collegues and people.
why might some people disagree that resigning from the work place isn’t worse than being there?
some suggest that it reinforces social isolation through the vast majority of communication occuring through email or phone, cutting out the face - face interaction.
what did gray do?
he did a survey to see how well mental health is dealt with in the workplace and found that only one in 10 employers had an official mental health policy.
what did gray’s finding suggest?
it suggests that the majority of employers do not have any guideline on how to correctly deal with mental health which neglects the need of their worker suffering from any disorder.
what is MIND?
mind is a charity that which help support and raise awareness for mental ilness. and have promoted awareness towards businesses and how they should be working to support their workforce.
what question can therefore be asked?
is the workplace a cause of mental health disorders, and if so, how can these problems being properly adressed?

people who experienced less connectedness and support were more likely to develop psychosis/
what did lin find?
that when looking at schizophrenia across cultures their were more similarities than differences suggesting that culture may not play a role/
how does culture play a role?
because of increased imigration and the uk becoming more multi-cultural, we may not be as educated on cultural bound symptoms.
