Atman is behind all vital functions, the breath, hearing, speech, mind and all senses and is yet responsible for them. It can be percieved by senses, can be inferred to exist in living things but does not exist in material things.

What grants death the desire to teach the boy
After he rejects all wealth and prosperity in the material world claiming these are temporary and is wondering what happens at the great transit.

To find out how to overcome death and achieve liberation.

Wise choose good whereas fools choose self gratification

Learn about self realization through external knowledge. The atman is smaller than atoms and can’t be grasped through reason

-Om is the sound manifestation of brahman which when you realize is brahman uncover the atman
verse 18-can soul be killed? can it be grasped by external knowledge?
soul cannot be killed or grasped by intelligence and teaching
verse 20-where does the soul lie?
lies in the heart of the being

death is inevitable and will capture you regardless of the caste you are in.
Chapter 3 verse 3-who is the chariot, the rider the horses?
Self is the rider in a chariot while the chariot is the mind and the horses are the senses.
Chapter 3 v. 16- what are the benefits from hearing the tale of natchiet or sharing his story at a funeral?
One who hears the tale of natchiet will be free from death and attain liberation as someone who shares it at a funeral
chapter 3 v. unknown-how do you find atman? What do fools do? What do wise men do?
In order to find the atman you must look inside yourself. Fools use their atman to look for external objects to satisfy themselves.
