Nasiketha (an individual) approaches death and asks for three wishes the third is for knowledge in how to conquer death and liberation from the cycle of birth and death. Death says that in order to attain liberation one must reject all worldly desires and acknowledge that the self is independent of the body and mind and is the source of brahman, once an individual does this they will realize that reincarnation and death are illusions and transcend from them.
