Kate LE Flashcards
L5 radiculopathy
Weakness dorsiflexing
Heel walking
No reliable reflexes
L4 radiculopathy
Weakness extending quadriceps
Squat & rise test
Knee jerk reflex diminished
S1 radiculopathy
weakness of plantar flexion of great toe and foot
Toe walking
Ankle jerk reflex is diminished
Straight Leg Raise tests for? & method
impingement of the sciatic nerve
elevate leg, dorsiflex foot- lateral pain
seated SLR test method
extend leg- pt will “flip back” with pain
trendelenburg test
raise one knee while standing- if hip drops, weak hip abductors on straight leg side
how to position leg to palpate a Baker’s cyst
extend knee
pulsatile swelling behind the knee, palpable on extension
Popliteal artery aneurysm
how to perform a bulge sign
leg straight- “milk” fluid down one side and up the other, looking for effusion
valgus stress test
for MCL issues
stabilize knee and abduct the distal leg
varus stress test
stabilize the knee and adduct the distal leg
for LCL issues
anterior drawer test
knee 90* w/ foot and hips stable
pull tibia anteriorly
ACL tear
Lachman’s test
flex pt’s knee 15-20*
stabilize thigh w/ one hand and pull upper tibia anteriorly with the other
more sensitive sign of ACL tear
McMurray’s test
flex knee, place thumb & index finger on joint space
rotate foot laterally & extend leg
palpable click indicates medial meniscal tear
patellar ballottement
milk fluid from above, push patella down into joint space
effusion
