just osce Flashcards
hypoxia and action
oxygen deprivation in a certain area/organ. Give oxygen
Hypovolaemia and action
decreased blood voulume and give crystalloid or colloid
hypothermia and when to check
low body temp, under 35. check if drowing, bair hugger get warm
hyperkalaemia or hypo. and action
high/low potassium
hyper give iv calcium chloride
hypo give calcium channel blocking drug
hydrogen ions sign
of acidosis so blood less than 7.35 pH
tension pneumothorax and action
usually laceration/trauma or previous catheters meaning air build up in pleural space. positive pressure ventilation will help
tamponade (cardiac) and action
fluid in the pericardium (sac around the heart) build up. and so compression on heart and drain with a needle
toxins/tablets and action
reverals agents see toxbase in BNF
thromboembolism coronary and pulmonary and action
obstruction in blood vessel by blood clot. thrombolytic drugs but can take 90 mins
what is central nervous sytem depression? and what does it lead to
decreased rate of breathing, heart rate and or loss of consciousness due to inhibited or suppressed brain activity and leads to death/coma
what is soler?
S= sit squarley O= open posture L= lean towards the pt E=eye contact R= relax
What are the AEIOU/TIPS for altered level of conciousness
A= acidosis/ anoxia E= epilepsy, exposure (hypothermia), electric shock I= intoxication, infection O= overdose (intentional and accidental) U= uraemia (raised levels of toxins ie urea, in blood thats usually eliminated by kidneys)
T= trauma that leads to acidosis (as trauma perfusion worsens, lactic acid builds up meaning bodies pH drops (<7.35) resulting in metabolic acidosis) I= insulin. hypoglycemic, not enough glucose to brain for ATP, hyperglycemic coma P= poison, psychosis S= seizure, stroke, shock
