jung believed that personality was formed by our past experiences (childhood) and collective unconscious. collective unconscious is the shared memories and experiences of our ancestors that we unconsciously store in ourselves. personality is driven by the psyche, which is a life energy that fuels our thoughts and wishes. the collective unconscious is often expressed through archetypes, which are universal ideas or concepts or categories of experience (ex. the mother)
