Bandura Flashcards
bandura’s psychology
modeling theory
bandura’s summary
bandura believes that personality is formed through modeling and vicarious reinforcement, or watching others and seeing how others react to them. we have to see behavior, remember it, try it, and decide to try it again or not. overtime we will learn, and then learn to decide what behavior to replicate.
vicarious reinforcementi
(bandura)
-learning acceptable behavior from how other’s behavior is reacted to
modeling
(bandura)
-a behavior modification technique that involves observing the behavior of others and participating with them in the desired behavior
four steps of modeling through observational learning
(bandura)
1. attentional: pay attention (see it)
2. retention: (remember it)
3. behavior production: (try it)
4. incentive and motivational: (decide to try it again or not)
disinhibition
(bandura)
-the weakening of inhibition or restraint by observing the behavior of a model
-ex: mob behavior
trolling/cyberbullying is an example of
disinhibition
how do we model?
- status: those who we would want to model after
- similar to us
- strange situation: we are more likely to model when we are uncomfortable
- consequences: seeing how others react to their behavior and deciding if we want that reaction for ourselves
self reinforcement
(bandura)
-administering rewards or punishments to oneself for meeting, exceeding, or falling short of ones expectations or standards
self efficacy
(bandura)
-our feeling of adequacy, efficiency, and competence in a certain skill set
according to bandura the self is
a set of cognitive processes concerned with thought and perception
triadic reciprocal causation model
(bandura)
-personal determinants> behavioral determinants> environmental determinants>
-a cycle
human agency
our ability to excercise control
efficacy beliefs
- performance attainment
- vicarious experience
- verbal persuasion
- emotional arousal
