When should you suspect DM 1 instead of DM 2?
Suspect DM 1 if the patient is
<30
not obese
What are the signs of dry beriberi?
distal, symmetrical, peripheral neuropathy
muscle atrophy
decreased proprioception/vibration
decreased DTR
orthopnea
*dry beriberi is caused by a thiamine deficiency. Look for clues in the stem about alcoholism, recent gastric bypass, TPN nutrition
Why is cervical HVLA contraindicated in patients with
RA or Down Syndrome?
Cervical HVLA is contraindicated because there is weakness in the alar and transverse ligaments of the cervical spine
C-ANCA is an antibody against what?
C-ANCA is an antibody against proteinase 3
this is highly specific for granulomatosis with polyangiitis (Wegners granulomatosis)
