Joints (lab) Flashcards
How many ways are there to classify a joint?
Two; structural and functional.
Structural and their types
What holds the bones together.
Fibrous, Cartilaginous, & Synovial.
Functional and their types
How much it (the joint) should move.
Synarthrosis, Amphiarthrosis, and Diarthrosis.
Fibrous
Collagen fibers hold the 2 bones together (Ex. sutures in the skull). (structural)
Cartilaginous
Bones held together by cartilage (ex. pubic symphysis, meniscus in the knee). (structural)
Synovial
Held together by a capsule (Ex. knee) (structural)
Synarthrosis
Not supposed to move (ex. sutures of the skull) (functional)
Amphiarthrosis
Moves a little (ex. pubic symphysis, intervertebral) (functional)
Diarthrosis
Freely moveable (ex. knee, fingers, shoulders, etc.) (functional)
Synovial Joint
Reduces friction. Allows easy movement.

Bone
Ligaments connect what?
Bone-to-bone
What does adduction mean?
Toward the midline.
What does abduction mean?
Away from the midline.
