Joining Technology - 230330 Flashcards
What is the usual temperature of steel in the center of a weld spot?
Around 1800 degrees Celsius.
Describe the process of resistance projection welding
A bottom sheet metal is plastically deformed by a “cup” shape in the electrode, which also heats both surfaces by flowing current and melts the metal in both surfaces.
The result is a cup shape in both surfaces that is actually the welding point.
ISO 8167
What’s the dependance between Carbon content in steel and weldabiity
Above 0.4 Carbon leads to martennsitic structrues and cracking in the heat affected area.
Dependance on current and the shear strength
If you increase the welding current, the nugget size increases and the strength in shear tests increases also.
