JOELS CELLS Flashcards
What is cell theory?
All organisms are made of cells, all existing cells are produced by other living cells and the cell is the most basic unit of life.
What is cell specialisation?
The process where generic cells transform into specialised cells with defined roles.
What is the cell wall?
The wall of a cell, only found in plant cells and provides support and stability.
What is the cell membrane?
Controls substance movement.
What is the cyctoplasm?
medium for chemical reactions, gooey liquid inside the cell.
What is the function of vacuoles?
Stores nutrients and water.
What are ribosomes?
Cellular machinery responsible for making proteins and is the site of protein synthesis in the cell.
What is the function of Endoplasmic Reticulum
To produce proteins znd calcium storage.
What is the Mitochondria?
THE POWERHOUSE OF THE CELL
What is the function of chloroplasts?
produces energy through photosynthesis
What is the nucleus?
Brain of the cell, stores DNA.
What is a Cell?
Basic building blocks of life.
What is Tissue?
A group of cell that have similar structure and function together as a unit.
What are organs?
A collection of tissues that form a specialised unit.
What are systems?
A group of organs that work together to do a task.
