What is job share?
A
Where two people share the duties and responsibilities of one full time position and work effectively on half each

What does it require?
A
It requires both sharers to take joint responsibility for the whole, not just the duties undertaken individually

What happens if someone would like to job share?
A
The individual would need to give the leisure organisation time to find their ‘other half’

Advantages of job share
A
- The work is spread out more effectively and the work can be given out according to people’s skills
- People can work less hours around their lives
- The employer doesn’t have to pay as much
- Less pressure on the business
- Two people have more skills
- If there is longterm illness, the other person can fill in until they return
- More ideas can be brought forward
- Holiday and busy times: the other person can cover and so the work is still being done
- Staff aren’t overworked as much - this will benefit the organisation

Disadvantages of job share
A
- One person might be doing more work than the other - this could affect the one doing all the work because of added pressure
- Requires a lot of communication and organisation
- If they are both ill, the job might not get done
- A job sharer might want to go for a promotion - the business may not want to promote two people
- Requires two sets of training which can cost money
- The employer may struggle to find two people with the same skills to job share (AND VICE VERSA)
