Why do we interview?
To see what the person is like
To compare one candidate to another
For candidates to ask questions and see what the organisation is like
What happens at interviews?
Meet key staff: usually the manager or supervisor
Tour of the organisation
Meet other staff
Might have a task/job to complete
1 to 1 interview/ panel interview
How to prepare for an interview?
Prepare questions to ask all candidates
Organise times for every candidate interview
Organise staff to show candidates around the leisure organisation
Rooms/meeting rooms for interviews to take place
Organise refreshments
Inform existing staff that interviews are taking place
Admin: all interviewers need to have details of applicants in front of them
Let candidates know where and when
Why should candidates be informed on whether or not they get the position?
The person who has the job is usually informed first and if they decline, the company can ask the next candidate.
Those who were unsuccessful can get a debrief from the company
What happens to the successful candidate?
The successful candidate usually receives a follow up letter, confirming the job title, salary, start date, where to report to and what to bring
