What is an induction process?
This is a process used within many businesses to welcome new employees to the company and prepare them for their new role
What’s it for?
It is to help the newcomer adjust as quickly as possible to the new working environment, in order to achieve maximum working efficiency in the shortest possible time
Why are they important?
Gives your new employee an objective view of your company, organisational culture and work ethic - this will allow the employee to better integrate into the workplace.
What are the benefits?
Increased retention of newly hired employees
Improved employee moral and increased productivity
Increased sense of acceptance into the organisation
Induction for a sports coach…

use of gym equipment/health and safety talks so they will need to know how everything works to keep customers safe.
Needs to know where everything is.
A lot of contact with customers and may have to direct them - they need to know where they are going so they need a tour.
If they are working in different places and with different people so will need to know who to ask for guidance in each area.
Induction for a chef

if people are leaving, they need to know what staff are used to, what they can do and usual work practises
if there is new staff so the induction will allow info about the kitchen to be conveyed to them
the style and equipment may be different so they will have the chance to see how it operates
Get to know staff as they work closely as a team
Fire hazards, safety procedures

If they have no leisure industry background, they will need an introduction to different systems to ensure efficiency at work
Will need a tour - if there are a lot of facilities then they will need time to get around all the places
May need an introduction to the industry itself…job shadowing can allow her to get to know the industry
Introduction to procedures, e.g. fire procedures
also with existing customers as the candidate may not have met them
Needs to meet their manager and staff they are working with.
