It’s when you have a problem with a work colleague or a manager

It is a set process that is understood by all
Allows staff to get managers to confront problems officially
It is fair to all parties
Stops tension in the work building
Avoids the need to arbitration in most cases
There will be written evidence so if the problem happens again there is an agreed version to refer to
