The festival is celebrated as a Harvest festival, reminding Jews to be grateful for what they have been given and the gift if nature. They live outside for 7 days in temporary shelters to be closer to the natural world.

How can this change a Jew’s life?
Many Jews take part in Shabbat every week where they stop their busy lives to reflect on God creating the world.
Many actions on Shabbat are environmentally friendly, such as walking to synagogue as well as not using unnecessary electricity through mobile phones or the television.
