JD - CH.15 - Promtoing and luring Flashcards

1
Q

What is the claimed argument to not use luring in dog training?

A

Lures block true learning/impeed dogs develop greater intelligence/problem solving. Lure-shaping debate for years. No strong research on any side.

Q

What is a lure? Name other words for it.

A

Event before behavior, non-physical prompt. Prompt, Antecedent stimulus.

Q

What is a lure opposed to?

A

Opposed to consequence (after behavior) that is likely to elicit without any prior training the desired response. Once desired response, reinforcement.

Q

Give ex of lures.

A

Move treat in front. Crouch, clap, high pitched sounds, retreat to prompted recalls.

Q

What other methods than lures can we use to get a behvaior?

A

Physical prompts: Push/pull into behavior. Guide with leash, etc. And modeling = Provide ex for subject to imitate.

Q

What is a cue?

A

Behavior trained with word attached. Already learned cue (hand signal) can be connected to other cue (verbal).

8
Q

Which learning mechanism are involved in training a behavior and attaching cues to it?

A

Working with operant conditioning, but relationship between cue - prompt = Pavlovian/classical.

9
Q

Explain the CC in the cue-prompt relationship.

A

First event = New/unlearned cue is in conditioned stimulus slot.
Second event = Prompt/known cue is in unconditioned stimulus slot.
If first unlearned reliably predicts known cue, CC will occur!!!

Q

What will be the result once the dog has learned a new cue in relation to an already know one?

A

Will start anticipating second event when hear/see first event and deliver operant behavior before second event.

Q

What is it called when a dog anticipates a cue and offers a behavior before the cue has appeared?

A

Referred to as jumping the prompt!

Q

What happens if cues and prompts are presented at same time or backwards,

Q

Claim: Using prompts blocks or oversahdows learning. What si your response?

A

It’s wrong timing that blocks! Clicker training would also not work if treat first, then click.

Q

What is fading a prompt?

A

Fading prompts: Take away clapping + crouching gradually before “Come!”.

15
Q

Would you reinforce faded prompts? Why?

A

Yes. If not, get too weakly conditioned behavior.

16
Q

If prompting technique gives too weakly conditioned behavior, what would you suspect is the problem?

A

Then prompt is not the problem. Timing or fading of prompts have been done incorrectly.

17
Q

Doesd dogs become worse problem solvers by training with prompts?

A

Don’t know. Need more science.
