  1. Catholic Church founded 700+ hospitals
  2. Specialist hospitals called lazar houses were made for lepers - these were stationed on the outskirts of town. Bedlam Hospital was made to focus on mental health.
  3. Care not Cure - sickness = divine punishment so curing it was wrong but following the example of Jesus (who healed the sick) made them prioritize caring over curing.
  4. Only priests and nuns were allowed to work in hospitals founded by the Church.
