- Develop new ideas

- Important at the time - Four Humours was used by Medieval doctors, and the promotion of a moderate diet and exercise ensured the longevity of the Ancient Greeks.
- Relevant - Doctors today still take the Hippocratic Oath

- Ancient Roman doctor
- Developed theory of Four Humours further and created the treatment of opposites
- Experimented on animals (e.g monkeys) b/c human dissection was forbidden - made mistakes about human anatomy b/c of this e.g thought humans had two jawbones

What is the significance of Galen? (3)
A
- Important at the time - Treatment of opposites was used by Medieval doctors
- Relevant - shows the importance of human dissection and a deep understanding of human anatomy
- Time - methods were practiced for over 1000 years b/c of the Catholic Church’s support. Galen also believed in one God so the Church accepted his ideas at a time where they had lots of influence over medicine.
